Analytical Hypnotherapy

What is Analytical Hypnotherapy? It is a method used to discover the sensitising event of psychological problems. This can be summarised briefly as looking for the sensitising event (the cause) and this is usually an emotional event in your childhood (see critical factor below). Once found we can remove the emotional content and view it as an adult and no longer as a child.

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I  put away childish things.  I saw through a glass darkly; now I see clearly."  1 Cor 13. St. Paul to the Corinthians.

The critical factor

The critical factor is developed by age 11. Until then, the child interprets each message literally, "You'll be the death of me.". We live out that role, script or attribution throughout our lifetime as a self-fulfilling prophesy. When we experience a trauma, or sensitizing event, the critical factor is temporarily blown aside and the non-analytic mind forms a thought that then dominates a person's life.

Let's look at an example of the power of the subconscious. As a child this man is told "You have no guts" by his father over and over again prior to the development of his critical factor. The subconscious has no sense of humour. Everything is taken literally. By age 50, the man who had been told he had no guts had more than ½ of his intestines removed surgically through multiple operations.  It is taking a lifetime for the subconscious to fulfil its destiny.
